The italian terrace

Château de Gourdon 1592

Planted large boxwood cut in cone or ball on bottom of grass, this terrace is visible by far. Very out of camaieu of greens, the composition evokes the spirit of the gardens of the Rebirth. In XVIème century in Tuscany and in the surroundings of Rome, the flowers were indeed gathered in enclosures, named Giardini dei Fiori.

Small flowers blue-mauve which push in a spontaneous way, the aubriètes owe their name to the painter Claude Aubriet. At the beginning of the XVIIIème century, the artist was charged by Louis XIV of a botanical forwarding in minor Asia. He brought back of them these flowers which give, to April, a vibration particular to the stone of the walls which enclose the Garden with the Italian. In other seasons, the aubriètes leave the place with the mufliers and the valerians.
